He worked the rails
Saved some money
To buy a ranch in Cheyenne County
He built a home
Raised a barn
And bought a horse he named Patch
Found this dog
Just skin and bones
Took her home and called her Sally
Every Morning
Rain or Shine
They would ride the Cheyenne County line
Sometimes he’d get his guitar and sing out on the porch
He’d watch the setting sun and the stars come out of the blue
The only thing that was missing, was he was missing her
Then one morning
On his fence
Sat an old one eyed cat
He took pity
Took her home
And said you’re welcome, to our little family
Sometimes he’d laugh out loud when Sally chased her tail
He’d rock all night in his chair with One Eye on his lap
The only thing that was missing, was he was missing her
Then one day
He woke up
That old heartache just went away
He just smiled
Drank his coffee
He found his heart, on the Cheyenne County line
Now everyday he gets his guitar and sings out on the porch
He watches the setting sun and the stars come out of the blue
