“Legal –Alien” (Version 2)
June 16, 2009
After four long years, and a medal or two
He got off the train, in Civilian shoes
But, he didn’t know, how much life had changed
In America
The banks were closed, and the church was gone
The house where he grew up, was foreclosed on
And in the town square, the flag had disappeared
It wasn’t much of a welcome home
The fields were all brown, and the farms were run down
The GM plant was now shutting down
And the price for gallon of gas made no cents
Unless you were a Saudi Prince
Chores
And now, he wants to know what he was fighting for
And he wants to know what they were dying for
And he wants to know what happened to the dream
That kept him alive when he thought about home
Cause now he just a legal-alien in America
Instrumental/Middle
The welfare line stretched around the block
Mom and Pop shops were closing up
And, the Politicians were bailing-out their Wall Street friends
And selling our future to the Chinese again
Children were told they could do nothing wrong
Parents were taught they had no control
And the prisons were full, with the ones left behind
And now we got no time for his audacity
Chores
But, now he wants to know what he was fighting for
And he wants to know what they were dying for
And he wants to know what happened to the dream
That kept him alive when he thought about home
Cause now he just a legal-alien in America
(Repeat)
And now, we want to know what we’ve been fighting for
And we want to know what we’ve been dying for
And we want to know what happened to our dream
That kept us alive when we loved this country
Cause now we’re just legal-aliens in America
